Larry Barker was hot, tired and … happy. He and wife Marian needed two extra playoff holes under 100-degree-plus skies to win another Championship Flight of the Bogey Buster couples tournament Sunday over Jason and Lisa DeFriend. Both couples shot 63 both days. The Barkers (in photo at left) needed to birdie the final hole in regulation to force the playoff after the couples started the day tied. The tournament featured 132 golfers competing in six flights on very a toasty Saturday and Sunday. Both couples birdied the ninth hole – the first playoff hole. The Barkers then birdied the eighth hole for the win. Marian pulled her approach shot on eight to the left, but Larry hit his from 110 yards out to about 10-12 feet. Marian made the putt for the win. “It was a gunfight,” said Larry. “Marian and Larry are probably two of the best putters we’ve ever seen,” said Jason. The DeFriends were down two shots at the turn but held a one-shot lead on the final hole. Larry was awed by Jason’s drives. “He hits his drives about 350, 360 yards,” said Larry. Jason said: “More like 280.” Larry quipped: “The course keeps getting longer.”
