Xavier Perez joins golf staff

Xavier Perez discovered golf after joining the Navy and it’s become his career. Perez joined Lubbock Country Club March 30 as Outside Services Manager/Assistant Golf Professional after serving in a similar role in his hometown at Abilene Country Club.
He was at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and started playing at the base course. He had not played a lot of golf before that – but played baseball and lacrosse in school, so he was athletic.
After the Navy, Perez moved back to Abilene to continue school at Abilene Christian University, but the industry he was considering took a major hit from the COVID pandemic and he decided golf might be a better career path. He got the job at Abilene CC. “I decided this is what I want to do,” he said, getting into the PGA Management Program. “I also have a large interest in club fitting – that’s kinda my niche,” he added.
His wife’s family is from Lubbock and that was an attraction to taking the job at LCC. “Lubbock is a growing community and it’s just going to get bigger by the year,” he said.
