Bolen wins back-to-back Club Championships

David Bolen (getting trophy from Pro Mark) rode a Saturday 67 to his second straight Club Championship, again holding off a Cooper High School star golfer over Sunday’s final 18 holes.
Mason Roberts closed within two shots of Bolen on Sunday’s back nine, but couldn’t convert some chances to pull closer.
Meanwhile, Bolen made big par saves after tee shots in the trees on the final holes to win the Championship Flight.
Bolen shot 73-67-73 for 213, or three under par, two head of Roberts, who won the title two years ago.
Last year, Bolen beat Roberts’ teammate Hudson Carper in a playoff for the title.
This year, Carper finished fifth with a 221.
Tyler Chadwick was third with a 74-70-72=216 ... shooting even par for the three days.
Eli Tran was fourth with a 75-73-69=217.
Miles Seybert was sixth with  74-78-72=224.
Preston Defriend was seventh with 76-73-78=227.

Other winners Sunday were:
• Dan Jackson won the Senior Championship.
• Marian Barker won the Women’s Championship with a Low Gross of 146, five strokes ahead of Lisa Defriend. Grace Fikse won First Net with a 139 with Mary Zias second with a 146.
Five other flights were decided after three days of match play.
• Matt Hall won the First Flight, defeating Tyler McDougal. Blaine Gibson won the consolation.
• Rickey Green won the Second Flight, defeating Eric McDonald. Blake Boyd won the consolation.
• Jeff Bartholomew won the Third Flight, defeating John Zias. Jim Risley won the consolation.
• Peter Smith won the Fourth Flight, defeating Ellwood Keeney. Glen Reinart won the consolation.
• Chip Gilmour won the Fifth Flight, defeating Joe Artho. Tony Nicholas won the consolation.
Bolen was asked about holding off two Cooper High stars two years in a row.
“It’s not going to last forever – they’re getting better daily,” he said.
Bolen said he hit about 15 or 16 greens on the way to his Saturday 67, with no three putts.
After that round, his overnight lead was four strokes, which grew to six on the back nine Sunday before it tightened up coming home.
“Mason birdied one (playing as the 10th hole) to get it (the lead) down to three,” said Bolen.
Then the lead was two.
“I made enough pars to hold him off,” said Bolen.
But a couple pars were after hitting his final tee shots left into the trees.
“It didn’t quite cut like the ball normally does,” he said.
He had 34 yards on No. 7 (playing 16th) for his third shot and pitched to about a foot.
On the final hole he had 70 yards and made a long putt to save par and seal the title.
Roberts missed a short, but tough birdie chance on No. 7, then missed another on No. 8.
“Mason’s putt on No. 7 was a tough putt,” said Bolen.
Roberts was frustrated after the round.
“I’m not really happy right now,” said the 2017 champion. “I gave myself opportunities coming down the stretch but didn’t convert. I was preforming well and fought – but congratulations to David for grinding and playing well today.”
Dan Jackson shot a 76 Friday, but put together rounds of 72 and 71 to take the senior title by six strokes over defending champ Steve Locke and Bill DeTournillon.
“I played really good yesterday and today,” said Jackson, who added he made a swing tweak after a tip from a friend that helped – keeping his hands low and finishing with his hands low.
It paid off with a trophy.
George Hardberger was fourth, four strokes behind the second-place pair. Patrick Pritchett was fifth, Everett Seymore was sixth, while Mike Macy and Steve Nieman tied for seventh.
Barker shot 70-76 for her win.
She said she hit the ball well, but made some mental mistakes on the final nine that led to a double bogey and a bogey before she parred the final three holes.
Barker also urged a number of members of The Club's Ladies Golf Association to enter the Club Championship.
