Club's Salad Chef Carlos Moreno wins first-place award for Chorizo Chili Con Queso recipe

The chorizo chili con queso on this past weekend's specials menu at The Club is an award-winning offering after Salad Chef Carlos Moreno won first-place for his recipe in a recent Lubbock queso contest.
The Lubbock High School grad who's worked in the kitchen about a dozen years collaborated on the recipe with Executive Chef Brett Lieberman before he entered the contest where he finished ahead of about 13-14 entries, he said.
Carlos won a gift certificate and a Yeti cooler in the first contest of this kind he's entered, seen in photo at left.
The dish is simple: Chorizo, Monterey Jack cheese, Rotel and seasoned taco meat.
"The chorizo gives it a distinct flavor," said Carlos, who one day hopes to own his own bar/restaurant.
