 The fourth time was a charm for Terence Begnel and Jay McHugh of Midland as they won the Championship Flight of the Par Buster by a stroke over Brady Shivers and J.D. Dickerson over the weekend.

 The pair’s 67 was the second best final round in the flight, helped by a birdie-eagle-birdie run on the Nos. 14-16, which played as the “front” nine for their flight.

Shivers and Dickerson closed with a 64, which Begnel and McHugh shot on the opening day.
They had no idea exactly where they stood on the back nine on Sunday, but had a strategy.
“We wanted to stay aggressive. Terence is always good about saying ‘let’s get two balls in the fairway and two on the green and get good looks at it. If you have two good looks, you’ve got a chance,” said McHugh.

 The pair also credited the Lubbock Country Club grounds crew for the quality of the course and greens.

“There are a lot of people on this golf course and it’s in great shape, especially when there has not been a lot of rain. When the greens are this good, we feel like we can stay aggressive because we don’t care if it’s a 20 or 25-foot putt because the greens are that perfect. It makes it way easier when you’re hitting second shots in,” said Begnel.
Chad Williams and Mark Keator captured the President’s Flight by three strokes with a closing 68.
It was the first time Chad won a Par Buster since he won the Championship Flight almost 30 years ago, he said.
The pair birdied Nos. 4, 5, 10, 12 and 15 along with a dropped shot on 8.
In the 1st Flight, Bryson Bowman made a 60-foot birdie putt on No. 17 – his next-to-last hole to give him and partner Randy Norman a stroke win over Justin Tubb and Zach Stokes.
Bowman hit to the front of the green as did Tubb and Stokes. “I got to see both their putts – I was able to get a read,” said Bowman of the 4-foot right-to-left breaker that just dropped into the cup.
He lipped out a short birdie putt on No. 18, but all his team needed was a par.
In the 2nd Flight, Dusty Womble and Glen Carter followed a 68 and 69 with a 74 – but it was still enough to beat Dan and Manning Pope by two strokes. The Popes shot a 71, but it wasn’t enough to erase a large lead Womble and Carter had going into the final day.
