Men's, Couples, Ladies golf events expanded for 2020

The 2020 Golf Tournament/Event Calendar features some well-known standards – the Par Buster, Bogey Buster, T-Par-T, Touch of Texas – but there are some tweaks to some of those and more new events under Brandon Veld, LCC’s Head Golf Professional.
“We’re trying to give members more opportunities to compete,” said Brandon, heading into his first full season after coming to Lubbock from famed Bellerive CC in St. Louis.
Many of the new events can fit into a member or a group’s regular rounds.
“They can play their normal thing and some of these events throw in a side game,” Brandon said, adding the entry fees are low and winners can win Golf Shop credit.
Brandon said LCC’s Golf Professional Team came up with some of the new events from ones they played in and seen.
He’s received a lot of positive feedback about the 2020 golf calendar from the Board, Green Committee and members.

Here are the new events or changes to existing men's and couples' events (click here to see more about all events, including women's):

Season long: Team Championship

This is a two-person handicapped match play event. Rounds must be completed within the time frame the Golf Shop provides. Entry deadline will be Sunday, April 26 with brackets available on Friday, May 1st. Register on-line or call the Golf Shop.

Season long: Club Championship

This event is match play and flighted by handicap. All matches will be scheduled by the competitors within the time frame the Golf Shop provides. Your tee is determined by the flight you are in. Entry deadline will be Sunday, April 26 and brackets will be available on Friday, May 1st.

April 4: Final Four

The Stableford point system will be used for this foursome event. Anything net bogey or higher person is a foul and – like in college basketball – five fouls and your team is eliminated. But you can bench yourself for holes where you’re concerned about that net double bogey. But if you bench yourself too many holes you risk not getting enough points to win.

April 11, May 16, June 20 and July 28: Major Saturdays

A fun way to connect your score to pros playing in golf’s four majors. “Make your own groups and we will take your net score on Saturday and add to it the score of the golfers who made the cut at the Masters and subsequent majors.

May 2: Derby Day

Two net best balls of your foursome. Win, Place and Show wagering will be available before the rounds. Winners get the esteemed “Pewter Cups” and there will be plenty of mint juleps available.

May 23: Red, White and Blue Scramble

Teams will be playing six holes from the Red Tees, six holes from the White Tees and six holes from the Blue Tees.

May 24, June 28, Sept, 6: Holiday Couples Scramble

These fun 9-hole scrambles come with a theme and drink specials.

June 5-7: T-Par-T

The annual Member-Guest tournament will have 60 two-man teams, will be flighted and feature five 9-hole matches – scramble, best ball, modified alternate shot, shamble and total score. Flighted winners and the wildcard will advance to a Shoot Out after final round to determine overall champion.

June 27: Beat the Pros

Brandon and an Assistant Golf Professional will play a round and count their best ball. All two-person teams beating the Golf Professionals will be paid Golf Shop credit.

July 4-5: Patriot Golf Weekend

All proceeds from entry fees and donations will go to the “Folds of Honor Foundation” to help the families of soldiers killed or disabled in service to our country.

July 11-12: Stroke Play

A 36-hole stroke play even with two flights -- Championship and Net. In order to be the 2020 Stroke Play champion, you must play in the Championship Flight. Going into the 2021 season, the Championship Flight scores will be used as a qualifier for the Men’s Club Championship seeding.

AUGUST 5-8: Par buster

The premier event on the men’s golf calendar, the Par Buster is a must play for all members. This event will contain teams of Member/Guest and Member/Member. Teams will be flighted and play 54-holes of medal play.

August 15: Senior Club Championship

Sign up individually and the Golf Shop will make the pairings. Flights will be determined by age 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and over 80. If you are competing for the overall Senior Club Championship, you must play from the White Tees.

August 21-23: Bogey Buster

Winners will advance to the Shoot Out to determine overall champion.

Sept. 5: Superintendent’s Revenge

Spencer and his team will be setting up the golf course for a fun and crazy day with surprises on every hole.

Oct. 17: Scratch Two-Man
